Having trouble getting up from a chair? How about a cane!

Do you use a cane or walker? Do you sometime have difficulty getting up from a couch or chair? Well you’re not alone. Many people struggle with trying to stand from a seated position only to find that their cane or walker doesn’t provide any help. The single hand grip on the cane and the dual hand grips on the walker don’t afford any leverage to assist when trying to rise from a seated position? There are canes and walkers that have an additional hand grip(s) positioned so that the user can use their own body strength to get to a standing position.

Need a Raised Toilet Seat? Things to Consider...

Before buying a raised toilet seat you have several things to consider. Do I really need a raised toilet seat? How secure am I going to feel sitting on a raised toilet seat? Do I need arms on the seat to assist me when I try to get on and/or off the toilet? If the raised seat had arms would I no longer need to use the edge of the counter or the toilet tissue holder to pull myself up? Can I fit between the arms of the toilet seat?

If you need a raised toilet seat it is probably best to think about one with arms. The arms give you support when sitting down and getting up off the toilet seat. If you use the counter to pull yourself up than you want one with arms. Not only must the raised seat be securely attached to the toilet but you must feel that it is safe for you to use. Some raised toilet seats are anchored in the front of the toilet bowl with a plastic screw while others are mounted between the toilet seat and the toilet bowl with long plastic screws.
